The recommended dose of VIRAMUNE for adults is one 200-mg tablet daily for the first 14 days, followed by one 200-mg tablet twice daily. This lead-in dosing period is required in order to reduce the chances of skin rash, a side effect that can occur with VIRAMUNE and that can be serious. Do not change the dose without talking to your healthcare provider. VIRAMUNE may be taken with or without food. Detailed dosing instructions are given in the chart below.
Patients who interrupt VIRAMUNE dosing for more than 7 days should restart the recommended dosing, using one 200 mg tablet daily (4 mg/kg/day in pediatric patients) for the first 14 days (lead-in) followed by one 200 mg tablet twice daily (4 or 7 mg/kg twice daily, according to age, for pediatric patients).
